Yesterday I contacted my companies HR to see how many hours of vacation I had because on June 12th my fiance is being induced to give birth to our daughter. I thought a week off would be nice to help out and spend some time with the newest addition to our family.

Today I was laid off.

One weeks severance pay.

There is something I noticed going around Tumblr right now about suits which got me thinking.

I’ve only worn a suit twice in the past 10 years and both times it was only to be funny.

Last year it was for Halloween…

and about 5 years before that was a 70’s party…

I was just reading this article that was written in Rolling Stone magazine in 1977 and I came upon a paragraph that really made me stop and think.

The room went dark and we watched the “lasers” light up the screen. The better ones were greeted with applause; the most spectacular ones got cries of “Wowie!,” “Whoopee!” and “Far Out!”

So they really did talk like that back then?

I still can’t imagine someone using the word “Whoopee!” as a serious exclamation though.

This week the battle is Pirate vs. Knight.

I dunno why I didn’t do this previously since my picks have been pretty good but one of my favorite shows on TV, Spike TV’s Deadliest Warrior is on tonight and I am going to just go ahead and tell you who I think will win.

Last week I correctly picked who would win in a fight between a Spartan and a Ninja? I won’t say now if you haven’t seen it but I highly recommend that episode.

My pick… PIRATE!

While I could give a long list of reasons for my pick, I will simply state that my main reason for choosing the pirate is based on the use of black powder.

So my question is…who do you think will win in a fight, Pirate or Knight?

With my love of bacon being common knowledge around the office, one of my coworkers made me a cake. A bacon cake.

Before you start the “Eww” noises let me explain that this isn’t your typical cake. Well of course not, it’s got bacon on it. But the cake itself is pancake and the frosting is maple flavored so it’s more like a unique breakfast in cake form.

Anyway, everyone gathered to witness the first bite and ya know what? Not bad.

Needs syrup though.
